FAQs
When would you choose to use SENT?
SENT is designed to identify gaps in a pupil’s basic understanding of number skills which may be leading to difficulty in grasping higher order mathematical subject content as the curriculum progresses. It performs best as a diagnostic assessment to identify where these gaps are and then monitor improvement as interventions are used.
As a one-to-one tool, it would be used when a particular pupil exhibits low attainment in mathematics compared to ability. This could be identified through teacher judgment or if using CAT4 and Progress Test in Maths, when there is a large difference between the mathematical attainment CAT4 suggests is possible for a student compared to their scores in Progress Test in Maths.
What reports does the SENT-R Online Marking Tool generate?
When you enter a child’s score for each of the five strands of SENT-R, the tool generates the following five reports:
- Student listing – this report lists the results for each student [including raw score, standard age score (SAS), stanine, national percentile rank, group rank, and estimated National Curriculumthethe maths level].
- Group demographic comparison – this table shows the raw score, SAS means, and standard deviations for each group of students.
- Comparison of group and national stanine distributions – this bar chart shows the percentage of students that fall within certain ranges of scores.
- Analysis by strands – this bar chart shows which percentage of pupils fall within different National Curriculum maths levels for each strand.
- Analysis by the age-equivalent band – this table shows the percentage of students at each age-equivalent band.
